Q: Angela how are you? Thank you for joining me.

Angela Terlesky: Great.

Q: So why did you choose figure opposed to bodybuilding or fitness?

Angela Terlesky: I had a trainer who suggested Figure I didn’t know anything about the bodybuilding industry at that time. After attending a show I was up for the challenge. I had been a gymnast for most of my adolescence so I’d considered doing fitness eventually. After doing a few figure shows I couldn’t imagine doing routine depleted, kudos to all the fitness competitors.

Q: What has been your best moment during a competition or in the gym?

Angela Terlesky: I’ve had so many great moments; I would have to go with the USA’s when I turned pro.

Q: What is your training philosophy?

Angela Terlesky: Train hard or go home.

Q: What does your current training workout look like (cardio and typical routine in the gym per day, include sets and reps)? How does it differ from previous programs?

Angela Terlesky: My Current program is: (3-4 sets of 10- 15 reps each muscle group)
Monday: Off- 45min cardio
Tuesday: Back and Triceps - 45 Min cardio
Wednesday: Chest, Biceps and Abs - 45 min cardio
Thursday: Off- No cardio
Friday: Shoulders and Abs - 45 min cardio
Saturday: Quads, Hamstrings and Calves- No cardio
Sunday: Off- 45 min cardio

When I’m prepping for a competition I do a lot more cardio. If I have to do more than 55min I split into two sessions (morning and evening). Otherwise I might do more sets or focus more on areas that may need more work. It really all depends on how my body response. I constantly have to remind myself that more isn’t better when it comes weight training.

Q: Describe your diet, Off-season and Pre-contest?

Angela Terlesky: I think we all use the same basic foods. My diet consists of egg whites, chicken, tuna, white fish, turkey, rice, yams, oatmeal, rice cakes, green veggies, lettuce, almonds, peanut butter, strawberries or blueberries.

Off-season: (high protein, moderate fats, moderate carbohydrates)
I eat clean Monday- Friday. Saturday and Sunday I add some cheese and 1 yolk to my egg whites. Lunch and dinner I treat myself by preparing dishes using beef or steak. I love desert so I follow dinner up with something chocolate. Yummy!

Pre-contest: (high protein, moderate fats, low carbohydrates) I never cheat!!! No treats during the 12 weeks leading up to the competition.

Q: What was the hardest thing you had to deal with when it came to your diet?

Angela Terlesky: I have a sweet tooth it’s challenging to stay away from chocolate.

Q: What improvements have you made since you begun competing?

Angela Terlesky: I have to work very hard to keep muscle while cutting. I have definitely increased overall fullness and size over the past 6 years.

Q: What is your idea of what the judges want in a figure competitor?

Angela Terlesky: In my opinion judges are looking for definition, conditioning, perfect symmetry and graceful confidence in presentation.

Q: How did you become sponsored by Prolab - the supplement manufacturer that carries a variety of products specifically for bodybuilders and fitness athletes? Did they see you live on stage or did you have to audition or something along with the lines?

Angela Terlesky: I attended the Olympia Expo in 2007. I made it a point to stop by the Prolab booth; I introduced myself to the marketing manager and left my comp card. Six months later I received an email from Prolab asking if I’d like to join team prolab.

Q: What is a typical day in the life of Angela Terlesky?

Angela Terlesky: Wake up at 4am, train, cardio, work, home (might have more appointments at home), rest, and in bed by 7:30pm. Not to exciting during the week.

Q: What supplements do you feel are essential when preparing for a figure competition?

Angela Terlesky: Of course Protein, L-Glutamine, BCAA’s, L-Carnitine, ALA, and CLA

Q: What are your strong points as a competitor? Any weaknesses you would like to work on?

Angela Terlesky: That’s a difficult question I’m my worst critic. I would say my strongest point is my drive and determination to always improve. I’m constantly trying to add overall size; keeping muscle fullness on my legs is my biggest struggle.

Q: What are your favorite foods to eat right after a competition?

Angela Terlesky: Any kind of fruit and chocolate

Q: What is your personal opinion about the figure, fitness and bodybuilding industry? Anything you would like to see changed?

Angela Terlesky: I don’t feel that I can critique the IFBB, I couldn’t do it better myself. I can tell you that this industry is incredibly small. After a few years you get to know competitors, photographers, judges, promoter’s even expeditors back stage. You gain tight friendships along the way. I think we all keep in touch because there is nothing better than support from others who completely understand the process and dedication this sport requires. Although we are all competitive we manage to stick together and help each other out.

Q: How does massage therapy work in alleviating pain and reducing stress?

Angela Terlesky: Massage therapy relieves muscle tension, stiffness, pain, and increases flexibility, by clearing lactic acid and other waste. Other benefits include enhancing immune function along with improving circulation by bringing oxygen and other nutrients to body tissues. Massage reduces stress by lowering cortisol levels.

Q: What other interests and hobbies do you have?

Angela Terlesky: I have to be active swimming, hiking, jogging and walking my dog anything outdoors. I also enjoy movies, shopping and childish things such as miniature golf, amusement parks, and the Zoo. I love to travel and experience new places.

Q: What advice would you give to someone wanting to compete for the first time?

Angela Terlesky: Make sure you are competing for you. This sport is extremely rewarding in the sense that you will gain a level of accomplishment that is indescribable. I would advise a beginner to not let this sport completely take over your life. Yes it will consume every minute of everyday for a 12week period. When the show is over adjustment back to some type of normality is extremely important. I’m not saying go crazy eat everything and stop training. In my personal experience I’ve come to realize if I don’t pull back have some fun and enjoy what life has to offer the sport becomes a job instead of fun. As long as I can adjust off-season to per-contest and back gradually and accept the changes my body makes during that time, life is good and I reap the personal rewards.

Q: What is next for you on the contest front, and what can we expect to see next time you step on stage?

Angela Terlesky: Good question I'm undecided when my next show will be. At this time I’m focusing on allowing my body to recover from this past year. I’m working hard to step on stage in 2011 showing a fuller figure with more overall muscle and depth.
