After she started her career in show business with modeling, she is quickly

* In the beginning, you gained popularity through modeling.
What is your proudest memory from your modeling career?
Kaila Yu: Definitely getting picked as Stuff Magazines 100 sexiest women online, I
have no idea how I made it on the list and I didnt even know I was in the
running! I just found out when my friends started calling me and letting me
know that they saw me in Stuff!

* You mentioned you were shy years ago. How did you overcome your
shyness and became a model? It's sounds like a huge change.
Kaila Yu: I am not really proud of being shy, I think its a weakness, and I still tend
to be kind of reserved. I just basically forced myself out of my shell. I
was never shy in front of the camera though, I was always very naturally
confident in that scenario. Having to go to car shows and talk to lots of
people and taking acting classes definitely helped with being shy.
* How does your work as a model compare to your singing career?
Kaila Yu: I love modeling but its no comparison to singing. Singing is really where my
passion lies.
* What does it mean to you to be a singer?
Kaila Yu: It means getting to express myself ! You dont really get to do that in
modeling.
* What do you want other people to come away with from your music?
Kaila Yu: I want them to be able to relate to what I'm saying and feel a connection.
* In 2003 you've released your first album. Tell me about the process
of making an album.
Kaila Yu: I produced the first album (not the music, but I put together the album as
executive producer) I had no experience so it was definitely extremely
tough. Its hard arranging all the processes, finding the producers, booking
studio time, recording vocals, finding someone to mix the tracks, finding
someone to master the tracks, figuring out packaging, shooting the artwork
etc etc etc It was really tough!
* How is your personality reflected in your music?
Kaila Yu: It has a changed a lot, I used to do pop music/dance, but my heads in a
darker more moody place so right now I'm working on rock/electronica
* Where do you find the inspiration for your music?
Kaila Yu: Just my life!
* The music world is huge and prolific. How do you plan to gain
recognition and fame?
Kaila Yu: There is no master plan. I'm just going to put my heart and soul into the
music, and I believe that if that product is good, people will notice!
* What most people don't know about Taiwanese culture? How is it
different from the American culture?
Kaila Yu: Hmmm I don't think its soooooo different. They are more conservative, and
study a lot harder is the main difference. I dont believe that the kids are
having sex in high school and they study much longer hours.
* Outside of the music business, what do you enjoy doing in your free
time?
Kaila Yu: I love to eat and cook, I really love to travel
* What is the best piece of advice you've ever been given?
Kaila Yu: Nothing too complicated! Dont listen to what anyone says, there are NO rules
except the ones others try to put on you, so never give up!
