Sheena Barber - Bikini Competitor

I started online training with Whitney Jones, team ProPhysiques, this passed January, with no intentions on competing. I didn't actually think my body could achieve those kind of results. After making tremendous progress with her and sticking to my plan very consistently, loving the whole journey, I made the decision in May to try at least one show.

I have found carb cycling most effective for me me along with counting macros. My coach gives me a set macro plan and I build my own meal plan for that week to meet those macros with clean, nutrient dense foods. During contest prep, macros get lower, low carb days go from 3 low 1 high to 4 low 1 high. Closer to show I cut out artificials, switch to natural nut butters, and even eventually cut out protein powders using tilapia and cod for lean protein sources. This is my first competition prep so only way I've tried, but we did this method for 8 months before starting prep and my body responded very well the whole time.

I don't step on stage until this weekend, although I'm nervous I'm so excited and have absolutely loved watching my body change. It has amazed me more each day, the things our bodies are truly capable of is outstanding!! Stepping on stage is just a way to showcase the drive, dedication, consitency, and perseverance you have given into this sport!

I lift 6x a week, complete HIIT sessions 4x a week, and 2 SS cardio sessions a week. I was lucky that my body responded well enough during prep that cardio was not increased much. I balance diet around how I'm training that day such as fasted cardio or regular, getting in 5 meals every day and eating roughly every 3 hours, ensuring post workout meal within an hour after workout.

Falling in love with this sport has definitely become one of the main priorities in my life. I wanted to have the experience to see what I could accomplish and started with an open mind. I plan to prioritize it with my life by enjoying more events and outings in my offseason. However, I was still able to do most of the things I always have during this prep, just taking all of my food and everything with me!

My first show is this Saturday, November 3rd, and I cannot wait to share the whole experience! As of now, I have already loved this process and feel that will be the same with show day. I'm so very excited. If I love it as much as I expect, I am looking at doing one more show next month, the NPC Holiday Classic in Florida, then start my offseason. I even already have a few shows picked out for next year that I'm very interested in competing in!
