* Ana, when and how did your successful career start?

Ana Beatriz Barros: I went to see Elite office in Rio and Sergio Mattos - art director of 40 Graus (Lumiere is partner of 40 Graus. They opened the SP office with Lumiere) asked me to participate in the Elite Model Look 1996, which I won for Brazil and was second worldwide. Then it never stopped.

* Was the beginning easy for you? Did you get used to living on airplanes quickly?

Ana Beatriz Barros: Things went really fast but my family really helped. My mother traveled with me for a very long time. I was not easy. I was so young and working so much. My family really helped me.

* What has been the highlight of your career so far?

Ana Beatriz Barros: Working for Victoria Secret (I have now a contract with Intimissimi (Italian Branch of VS), working for Sports Illustarded, shooting for Vogue, Elle ..etc. It's so hard to say because I worked with so many great designers, producers, photographers. All the best ones.

* How is it to be so famous and a symbol of beauty?

Ana Beatriz Barros: Very pleasant. I just wish sometime my life wasn't so public. You feel very exposed. But I also really love it. It's an amazing life. Can't complain.

* You are lucky to work internationally and meet variety of cultures. Where do you live now, and which differences do you find between life in Brazil, life in New York, and life in Paris?

Ana Beatriz Barros: I live in NY...as much as I can (I am always traveling). I also have my Apt in Brazil and need to visit my country very often to see my family and to refill my energy. I love Brazil, love NY too. And I am in love with Paris, such a romantic city. All such different cultures...I am glad that I have access to all those places. No need to choose only one.

* As a supermodel, you've done a lot of prestigious advertisements and worked with leading fashion companies. Please describe a unique experience from your modeling career, an assignment you enjoyed very much to do.

Ana Beatriz Barros: The shooting for SI are amazing. We go to such great places and the team take such a good care of you...it's fantastic.

* Would you say a woman can learn how to be a model, or modeling is something in the genes? you have it or you don't have it at all? Why do you think so?

Ana Beatriz Barros: You need a good body and figure. Once you have this you need to be strong. It's not that easy. My case is a little special, its like a dream - every thing went so well. But for all those new models...if they have what it takes, my advice: be nice and don't give up.

* Which things would you take to a lonely island?

Ana Beatriz Barros: My family...mother..sisters...my dog..my boyfriend..my Ipod..my cell phone. Please don't send me on an island alone...

* How will you pamper yourself after a hard day of work?

Ana Beatriz Barros: I love to go bicycle riding or going to the beach. Well it's not always easy. I also like to read about art, especially about painting.

* Do you have a dream, something you would like very much to do?

Ana Beatriz Barros: Have a institution that takes care of children. I love to take care of children.

* How much time do you need for telling if someone has modeling potential?

* What are the requirements (height, age and others) for becoming a Lumiere's model?

Ideally we start working with models when they are 15 years old and at least 1.75 cm.

* Where would you like to see the agency in the future?

Lumiere has been growing very fast and is really doing well. We only started in April 2005, and it's amazing how fast things are going. So our concern is to keep growing and at the same time not to loose our identity. We are a very Pro/friendly and human cie and we are doing all we can to work in the best conditions, respecting our clients... models/photographer/producers etc...offering the best services.

Go on, make yourself happy - have an affair!
