* Jeffrey, thanks for taking the time to do this interview. How are you?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: Hello, I am great! A bit stressed as we are tyrying to settle into our
new office space in Tribecca. You know what they say, moving is one of
the most stressful things in life!
* What is the vision of Q Model Management?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: My vision for Q Model Management is a little old school. I think that
it is important to always have models in your agency who can fill the
current, "look of the moment" niche. However, I think that Q prides
itself and is known for beauty. In an industry that may have its
seasonal looks I think classic beauty and good lucks will always be in
demand.
* You have been on both sides of the camera. As a male model back
then in Milan, as now a top manager. What was the change like for you?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: Wonderful, pounding the pavement in Milan was not for me, although, I
did have a great time in Italy. I much prefer being on this side of
the road.

Jeffrey Kolsrud - Q Model Management owner.

* From your rich experience, what makes an entrepreneur successful?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: Hard work!!!
* The company's two branches gives Q Model Management a significant
competitive advantage. How would you describe he synergy between Q New
York and Q Los Angeles, and what are the main differences between them?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: Q New York is more about fashion and Q LA is more commercial. It is
great because LA can groom models for us and get them ready for New
York. New York can also send our established models who want to
transition to acting and movies to LA.
* What is your pricing strategy?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: The more demand the model is, the more money that model will charge to
use her image. Quite simple, supply and demand! Also, the more visible the job... a lot of factors play into how much a
model is paid.
* What sort of trends do you see in the modeling industry?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: We have a lot of trends, grunge, heroin chic, amazon... but like I said I think
beauty is always in!
* What are some of the myths that you think aspiring models believe
about modeling?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: I think that aspiring models look at this industry as one filled with glamour and
tropical locations and fun in the sun all day long. Fact is, YES, there is travel. What
can often be long, lonely travels to destinations that if you or I went on holiday we
would have an amazing time. In a models situation, they arrive, often late the night
before a shoot which they will have to be up very early, they go to a set where they may
know noone and they start a job. It may be that they are lucky and can stay in the same
location for a few days but chances are they are on another plane that night to the next
gig. Alone and often times lonely. I think people have to understand that this is a job. NOT a permanent holiday.
MODELS DO WORK.
* Describe a typical day of work for you.
Jeffrey Kolsrud: In all honesty, there is no typical day of work for me. I think that is why I love this
industry, you never know what your next call will be or who that next model will be that
walks in off the street. Dealing with models most definatly keeps you on your toes and
keeps you young. I also think that because we have models from all over the world it
makes life so interesting for me and for the models to learn about each others cultures.
* How would you define beauty?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: I don't think beauty can be defined but it is something that you feel within.
* What is your source of inspiration? Does running in New York’s
Central Park inspire?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: Central Park to me is one of the mose magical places in the world. I have spent thousands
of hours in that park and I feel like I know the hundreds of acres like the back of my
hand, I think it is like my own back yard. No matter how much time I am there I always
leave refreshed and with a positive outlook on life and the day ahead of me.
* Do you have any favorite motto or quotation?
Jeffrey Kolsrud: NO, but I do love to talk. Life is all about performance!!!
